A personal note from the director for you:

Dear friend,

I am so glad you are willing to come to Bolivia and if you are here already, that is even better! Bolivia is a beautiful country with so much beauty in people as well as in nature. A land where you can see new things, you can help others and most of all, learn a lot!

As you get ready to come, you might have a mixture of feelings and questions … Is Bolivia safe for me? Will I be able to learn Spanish? Will I be left alone on my own?

First, from my perspective Bolivia is safe in general. We do have our conflicts, strikes, etc. but as long as you know when to get out dangerous situations, like protests, or demonstrations, you will be just fine. I have been here all my life and this is the way things have been since I can remember. When in doubt, please ask people who have more experience than you as a bit of advice can’t hurt.

Second, regarding the Spanish language, I believe that the chance to learn Spanish here is just unique. You can have a program tailored for you, according to your budget and time frame. You can enrich your experience here by living with a Bolivian family. Cochabamba is one of the places where Spanish is spoken clearly and more correctly than in many other places in Latin America. People are patient and kind to foreigners and although a bit shy at the beginning, once you make a friend, you’ll be friends for life! It all depends on how much you want to learn and how much effort you put into it. We will certainly guide you in the process of learning this beautiful language.

We really care about you, especially during your first days in Bolivia. We have a group of Christian students who will be your family during your time with us. We are willing to help you as you enter the new culture and as you give your first steps in the Spanish Language. No doubt about it, you are not alone! You wont´be a number, you’ll be a member of our family.

We also organize Cultural Workshops for our students and for the missionary community in general. We really want Christian volunteers and missionaries to learn about Bolivia, its people, its culture, its history and the language as well. Our purpose is to build relationships of trust with the Bolivian people, and that can only be achieved with a great knowledge and understanding of the culture and the language.

Being the Director of Serve Abroad is one of the most challenging and yet great things I have ever done! The Lord has provided a great team of teachers and the staff here… professional people who love what they do! They always do their job in the most excellent possible way.

Teaching is our mission; it’s our heart. That is why that I invite you with great pleasure to be a part of our family at Serve Abroad. Let us work together to do what we were created for: Give Glory to God in everything we do.

Your friend ,
Mauge
