Our Principles

Our Vision
Serve Abroad envisions a multitude of active and committed people equipped with acquisition of the Bolivian culture, the Spanish language and the ability to integrate to a foreign culture in order to make a difference in people’s lives by serving others in a cross-cultural setting or in their own cultural groups for the glory of God.

Our Mission
Serve Abroad’s mission is to provide the necessary tools to our Volunteers to increase their ability to participate actively in the lives of others by serving and learning from and with them in a cross-cultural setting.

Organizational Goals

  1. To foster the acquisition of the Spanish language, the knowledge, skills, attitudes and values necessary for developing relationships of trust in a cross-cultural setting by learning, serving and living with the people in the community, reflecting the love of God in people’s lives.
  2. To create a network of people of different backgrounds and cultures united by love of God, mutual respect, understanding and a passion to serve others.

Our Values
We believe that as an organization we must reflect the following values in all of our relationships, policies and structures:

  1. A strong desire to please God and for the expansion of His kingdom.
  2. An attitude of learning, teaching and serving each other at the same time, always.
  3. We believe that God made each human being to His image. Therefore we are all equal in His eyes. So we must love and respect one another despite our differences.
  4. We believe that no culture is superior to another one and everyone is capable of learning and changing at any stage in their lives.
  5. We believe that people of different backgrounds and cultures can learn to understand and respect one another and are able to build relationships of trust where serving, learning and teaching can take place at the same time.
  6. A true program for equipping people to serve others effectively in a cross-cultural setting is one that:
    1. Encourages people to take the initiative to know others by developing relationships of trust.
    2. Equips participants with the skills needed to speak a Second Language, intercultural studies and principles and strategies to be appropriate in a different culture.
    3. Partners with local development projects and organizations to serve and volunteer under their institutions.
    4. Provides and ensures all participants the opportunity to play active roles in the community and the classroom.
    5. Promotes full and equal participation for all the people involved.
    6. Respects and values all cultures and local realities as creatures made to God’s image and therefore worthy of love and respect.
